Man photographed with foot on table in Pelosi’s office is arrested

Police officers announced on Friday that they had arrested the man portrayed in a viral photograph sitting in the office of Mayor Nancy Pelosi, with one leg on the table, when pro-Trump protesters stormed the United States Capitol on Wednesday. Authorities said they took Richard Barnett, 60, into custody in Little Rock, Arkansas, and also released details of crimes for which several people will face federal charges. Barnett, who faces charges of violent entry and theft of public property, among other things, told KFSM that he was looking for a bathroom when he saw that the door to Pelosi’s office was open. “I sat here at my table. I am a taxpayer. I am a patriot. This table is not hers – we lent her that table,” he told KFSM. “And she doesn’t like the table, so I thought about sitting down and enjoying the table.” Barnett is being held at the Washington County Detention Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, awaiting his first appearance, according to NBC News. A reporter for the New York Times on Wednesday shared a video of Barnett, which he said was made after the Arkansan period in and shows him bragging about taking a personalized envelope from the office, which he says he did not steal. > Here is Mr. Barnett, known as “Bigo”, telling the story in his own words pic.twitter.com/oSyKiCDXgy >> – Matthew Rosenberg (@AllMattNYT) January 6, 2021 “I left a 25 cent coin in her table, “he said, and later added that he left a” nasty note “as well.” I will probably tell them that this is what happened until DC’s arrest, “he added. Barnett said he politely knocked on the office door, but was pushed inside by other troublemakers. Pelosi’s aides said his office was vandalized on Wednesday and a laptop from a conference room was stolen, although the equipment was used only for presentations. Officials previously announced the arrest of 82 people at state, local and federal levels, according to reports, while the FBI’s Washington Field Office released on Friday 40 photos of people who are wanted in connection with the Capitol disturbances. A West Virginia state legislature was also charged on Friday in connection with the Capitol disturbance. Derrick Evans, a Republican, allegedly recorded and then deleted a video of himself joining the crowd, leading to a petition asking him to resign. Meanwhile, Lonnie Coffman of Falkville, Alabama, 70, is accused of having two handguns, an assault rifle and 11 Molotov cocktails that included gasoline and what appeared to be homemade napalm, officials said. Police managed to link Coffman to a suspicious red GMC truck with Alabama license plates, according to NBC News. Mark Leffingwell has been charged and is accused of intentionally entering restricted territory and assaulting an officer after entering the Capitol. Leffingwell repeatedly punched a US Capitol Police officer in the helmet and chest, according to court documents. Christopher Michael Alberts, of Maryland, is accused of illegally entering the Capitol while having a loaded 9 mm Taurus gun and a separate magazine full of ammunition. Alberts, who wore a bulletproof vest, is also accused of having a pocketknife at the time. He “tried to flee immediately” before the police stopped him, according to court documents. He told police he had the gun “for personal protection and that he did not intend to use it to harm anyone”.
