31.4% positive percent of COVID-19 test results reported to DHEC

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported 2,323 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 42 new deaths on Wednesday. The department also reported 87 new probable cases of COVID-19.

Of 42 new deaths, 16 of them come from Spartanburg County.

Of the 7,391 results of the COVID-19 test reported to the DHEC on Wednesday, 31.4% were positive.

The state’s cumulative total is 280,024 confirmed cases, and there were 4,846 confirmed deaths. In addition, there were 23,451 probable cases and 403 probable deaths.

Greenville County, the most populous of the state’s 46 counties, leads the state with the highest number of confirmed cases every day since November 6, and had 429 new cases confirmed in the DHEC Wednesday report. Greenville County, which accounts for 10.2% of the state’s population according to Census estimates, was responsible for 18.4% of reported cases.

The municipality of Pickens, which represents 2.5% of the state’s population, was responsible for 6.28% of the cases (146). Spartanburg, which accounts for 6.2% of the state’s population and had the second highest number of cases, accounted for 6.4% of new cases (149), and Anderson, who accounts for 3.9% of the population, represented 5 , 1% of cases (119).

Meanwhile, DHEC reported on Wednesday that the percentage of vaccinations across the state for doses received by the federal government is 31% – up from the national average of 19% and almost double that of other southeastern states.

Based on the panel and current reports, utilization rates (doses administered and doses allocated or sent for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine) indicate:

  • North Carolina 63,500 / 323,125 (20%)

  • Georgia: 52,242 / 372,900 (14%)

  • Alabama: 20,354 / 128,175 (16%)

Greenville’s New Year’s party plans change amid rising COVID
