New Jersey districts are calling for school closings, opening delays and other time changes for Monday due to a major winter storm that is expected to bring up to two inches of snow to a significant part of the state.
While hundreds of districts continue to offer entirely remote classes due to the coronavirus outbreak, schools that operate on-site and hybrid models may choose to switch to remote classes during the day instead of canceling classes altogether.
But with strong winds and large snowfalls in the forecast, the potential for power outages remains likely.
The National Weather Service has put almost the entire state on a winter storm alert, with 5 to 10 cm of snow expected on Sunday, before a lull that lasts until Monday. Snow is likely to be heavy on Monday, with some areas seeing up to 7 centimeters an hour. The snow can last until Tuesday and bring the total accumulation of up to 60 centimeters to the northern half of the state.
School districts in the following counties have announced schedule changes (these lists will be updated during the storm):
ATLANTIC COUNTY
BERGEN COUNTY
GLOUCESTER COUNTY
HUDSON COUNTY
MERCER COUNTY
MIDDLESEX COUNTY
