This top video captures a “horrible” bicycle gang attack in a yellow cab in the middle of Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, executed shortly before another, worse yet, assaulting a BMW a few blocks away.
Dozens of pedaling punks, presumably teenagers, surrounded vehicles around 4 pm Tuesday, starting with the taxi on Fifth Avenue and 29th Street, according to police and the video, posted on Twitter by lawyer Teny Geragos.
“This horrible scene at 29th St & 5th Ave yesterday – an arbitrary and unprovoked attack on this taxi driver,” wrote Geragos in the footage’s post on Wednesday.
The 49-second panoramic clip is triggered after the taxi driver has already left his walk in the middle of Fifth Avenue to inspect the damage – but just in time to catch one of the horrible ones rocking his bike right behind the hack.
“It was broad daylight, everyone is around, no one can help,” Geragos, the daughter of the famous cool eagle Mark Geragos, told The Post on Thursday. “They are showing everyone that they have no problem using them [the bikes] not just to hurt a car, but to hurt a person.
“I have been a criminal defense attorney for four years and have lived in Manhattan for ten years,” she added. “I’ve never seen anything so depraved on a New York City block.”
The 52-year-old taxi driver – whose name is being withheld by The Post because he was the victim of a crime – got out of the scam, returning to the driver’s seat of his car while more than a dozen cyclists continued to drive, the video shows.
He reached into the vehicle and went out holding a black object, but at that point, most of his attackers had continued south, outside the frame.
It was on 21st Street that the group surrounded another vehicle, a BMW SUV driven by Max Torgovnick, 36.
The crowd attacked the luxurious sidewalk, pulled out the side mirrors and tried to open the doors while shouting, “Get out! Skirt! , ”Torgovnick told The Post.
When one of the creeps gave in to the car’s windshield when he jumped on it, Torgovnick found a gap in the crowd and took himself and his mother, who is in her 70s, to safety.
One of the alleged attackers, 15, was arrested on Wednesday night and accused as a young man of criminal wickedness and unrest.
Geragos said the speedy arrest and police response she witnessed on Tuesday restored a little faith that the city is trying to hold the line.
“I was very impressed with the police who immediately appeared and did their best to help the taxi driver and find the cyclists,” she said. “It shows that the city is doing its best to try to maintain law and order at a time when everyone is feeling the effects of the blockade and the virus in New York City.”
