“I was in Florida doing a fundraiser in various parts of Florida, I ended up in Mar-a-Lago and the president reached out and we visited,” said Scalise. “I haven’t seen him since he left the White House and it was great to meet him. I realized that he was much more relaxed than his four years at the White House. ”
“It was a conversation about how he is now, what he plans to do and how his family is doing,” said Scalise.

Scalise replied that there was “a lot of guilt for everyone”.
“At the end of the day, the people who invaded the Capitol on January 6, it was a shame and they need to be held responsible,” said Scalise.
“That is obvious,” replied Karl. “I’m asking about Donald Trump’s role in that.”
Scalise then moved on to the subject of Trump’s second impeachment trial, where defense lawyers showed a mashup video of Democrats using the word “fight” in political speeches in relation to Trump’s phrase “fight like hell” used during a speech just before the protesters invaded the Capitol.
“Everything they have done since the day [he] he took office was to try to accuse him, ”said Scalise.
“So you are saying that he has no responsibility?” Asked Karl.
“Look, President Trump denounced what happened and I think everyone should have been unequivocal in his denunciation of what happened not only on January 6, but during the summer,” said Scalise in reference to protests that at times became violent in the last year after several deaths of Black Americans at the hands of the police.
“Let’s be direct and say that anyone who uses violence to resolve political disputes, there is no place for that in America and it must be unequivocally contested,” said Scalise.
