SC state school district offers teachers $ 2,000 bonus

ANDERSON, SC (AP) – A school district in the state of South Carolina is offering a $ 2,000 bonus to all of its teachers and other full-time employees.

Anderson School District 5 is also giving a $ 1,000 bonus to part-time employees who work at least 20 hours, district spokesman Kyle Newton told The Independent-Mail of Anderson.

The district said it is offering what it calls the state’s biggest bonus to reward its employees and extra money for new teachers hired before the start of the next school year.

Employees are expected to receive bonuses in mid-February, which will cost the district about $ 4.5 million, said Superintendent Tom Wilson.

“We are state leaders when it comes to e-Learning and providing innovative instruction, so my thinking process is that we must also be clear leaders when it comes to employee bonuses,” said Wilson. “The board of trustees also recognizes the amount of work that has been done this school year.”

Anderson’s District 5 has about 13,000 students. About 4,000 started the school year in virtual classes, with the district planning to drop that number to around 2,500 in the second semester.
