SC says donations are on the way to 2,970 companies and nonprofits | The business

Nearly 3,000 small businesses and nonprofits in South Carolina will begin receiving $ 65 million in emergency donations starting in January, the state said on Thursday.

Funding is being distributed as part of two programs that were created by the SC Legislature to help businesses and nonprofits that have been hurt by the coronavirus pandemic.

The money for these initiatives, known as the Minority and Small Business Relief Grant Program or Nonprofit Relief Grant Program, was provided by the federal government as part of a $ 1.9 billion payment that Congress gave South Carolina according to CARES Act in March.

The General Assembly approved the allocation of $ 65 million in September.

Small businesses and non-profit organizations that applied by the November 1 deadline and were accepted into the programs will see their funding arrive in January. This time was the result of delays in processing the large number of requests received by the SC Administration Department.
