SC Governor Henry McMaster declares a state of emergency and orders the closure of two districts

COLOMBIA, SC (WRDW / WAGT) – South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency to help deal with the state’s response to coronavirus.

McMaster is also ordering the closure of schools in Kershaw and Lancaster counties, as several of the COVID-19 cases came from those counties.

The governor is also calling on DHEC to work with the state Department of Education to develop a plan on “if and when the remaining school district should decide to close schools”.

Additional actions to be included in the governor’s executive order:

• All state government offices must remain open for operation during normal business hours

• Visiting state and local correctional units in all 46 counties must be stopped immediately

• DHEC should immediately restrict visitation to nursing homes and assisted living facilities, with the exception of end-of-life situations

• State price fraud laws will take effect immediately

• The State Emergency Management Plan must be activated

McMaster will also give a press conference at 5 pm to discuss his efforts.
