SC fashion designer wears VP Kamala Harris, former first lady Michelle Obama

COLOMBIA, SC (WIS) – Wednesday was a historic day for fashion during the opening ceremonies and a notable day for South Carolina fashion specifically.

Vice President Kamala Harris made waves in a chic purple ensemble and wore pieces from two black designers, NBC News reported.

A unique piece was by Christopher John Rogers, a young designer from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The second piece of Sergio Hudson, a native of South Carolina and Columbia.

Hudson, who appeared in Vogue magazine and was the winner of the Bravo TV series “Styled to Rock”, made drawings for Michelle Obama, Tracee Ellis Ross, Beyoncé, J.Lo and many more.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama also displayed a Sergio Hudson purple suit design.

Purple, several fashion experts noted, is a tribute to the female suffragette movement and its purpose-driven ideals.

The first lady, Dr. Jill Biden, showing her commitment to American designers, wore a blue coat and dressed in Alexandra O’Neill. O’Neill is originally from Colorado and designs for Markarian, based in New York.

President Joe Biden and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff wore suits designed by American designer Ralph Lauren.

The choice of the color blue in the clothes of the first lady and the president is said to represent “confidence, security and stability”.
