SC drivers occupy the 4th position in speeding tickets, study findings

Drivers on South Carolina’s roads are No. 4 in the United States with the highest number of fines, according to a study by Insurify, a home and auto insurance comparison website.

The study used data from insurance applications that included speeding tickets and compared the number of drivers with speeding tickets to the total population to determine the proportion of drivers in each state.

The same study in 2019 found that South Carolina ranked first among states with the highest percentage of drivers with speeding tickets. The 2020 study showed that South Carolina ranked 4th, with 15.47% of drivers reporting a speed violation in their history.

The study also found that there are 1.11% of drivers in the state with a violation due to lack of registration in the registry.

According to Insurify, states with a higher proportion of drivers with speeding tickets are also likely to have a higher proportion of drivers with stop failure violations, but South Carolina is the only state in the top 10 for violations. speed that has a fault – Violation rate to stop below the national average of 1.77%.

In the United States, the average share of drivers with speeding tickets is 10.54%.

South Carolina highway patrol officer Joel Hovis said speeding quotes are more common in metropolitan areas and on interstate highways, where more people are traveling on those roads.
