SC DHEC reports 549 new school cases of COVID-19 in the week; USC Aiken reports five cases | Coronavirus

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported 549 new cases of COVID-19 in schools in South Carolina between November 13 and 19, according to the state agency’s report on Friday.

The DHEC biweekly report counts only students and school staff who entered a school or school activity during the contagious period of COVID-19.

Cumulatively, there have been 2,475 student cases and 1,078 employee cases in state schools so far, according to DHEC data. There are 3,553 cases in total.

Since Tuesday’s report, Aiken High has reported two more student cases. Jackson Middle, Wagener-Salley High and Redcliffe Elementary reported at least one new student case, and First Baptist Weekday reported at least one employee case.

The state agency’s report includes a continuous 30-day count and cumulative totals for individual schools.

Here are the COVID-19 numbers for the past 30 days in public, private and charter schools in Aiken County, according to DHEC:

  8. Fox Creek Charter High (<5 teachers).
  9. Greendale Elementary (<5 students). Cumulative: five students.

  12. Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle (<5 students, <5 teachers).

High school students from Aiken County returning to hybrid elementary students attending four days

In Edgefield County, Strom Thurmond High, Merriwether Middle and Merriwether Elementary reported less than five student cases in the past 30 days, according to DHEC. Strom Thurmond High now has a cumulative total of five student cases.

The Wardlaw Academy private school, also located in Edgefield County, has reported cases of students and teachers in the past 30 days – both less than five.

In Barnwell County, Kelly Edwards Elementary has reported less than five student cases in the past 30 days, according to DHEC.

USC Aiken

USC Aiken reported five new cases on its COVID-19 panel on Friday. This is the third consecutive week that the university has recorded five cases.

This brings the total accumulated since September 4 to 35 cases.

From the week of November 13 to 19, an isolation bed was occupied at the university.

USC Aiken to begin search for new chancellor

The total population on the USCA campus is 3,743, according to the panel.

The university reports having an adequate stock of cleaning supplies and making all relevant calls for tracking contacts.

The USCA alert level remains low, or “Green Alert”.

During the Green Alert, “the institutions are open and protection measures are still in place. The outbreak threat remains, but the virus is less and testing and contact tracking are robust to allow some policies to be relaxed, ”according to the USCA Ready, Set, Return plan.
