SC Attorney General is quarantined after exposure to COVID-19

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson is quarantined at home after being close to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, the Attorney General’s Office said in an email Tuesday afternoon.

Wilson canceled face-to-face meetings and will spend the next 14 days working from home.

“He feels good and has no symptoms, but he is taking this precaution to comply with the CDC guidelines,” said an email from the AG’s office.

DHEC announces Tuesday numbers

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced 1,088 new confirmed cases and 58 new probable cases of the new coronavirus, as well as 11 additional confirmed deaths and 3 new probable deaths.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 186,528 probable cases to 11,372, confirmed deaths to 3,884 and probable deaths to 272.

Greenville, York and Horry were No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, among South Carolina’s 46 counties for new cases. Greenville, South Carolina’s most populous county, was 176. York was 118 and Horry 85.

According to the US Census Bureau’s 2019 population estimates, the most recent available, the population of Greenville is about 523,542, while that of York is 280,979 and Horry; s 354,081. Overall, South Carolina’s population is about 5,148,714.

What to know Tuesday

  • DHEC announced 1,088 new confirmed cases and 58 new probable cases of the new coronavirus, as well as 11 additional confirmed deaths and 3 new probable deaths.
  • Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson were No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, among 46 South Carolina counties for new cases. Greenville, which is the most populous county in South Carolina, was 193. Spartanburg was 74 and Anderson was 56.
  • High school students in the Greenville County school district will begin a gradual return to integral learning in person next week, Superintendent Burke Royster announced Monday morning. Details here.
  • Bob Jones University froze 2021-22 school year tuition to $ 9,550 per semester, the same rate this year. The university’s president, Steve Pettit, said in a statement that the goal of the freeze is to help families facing financial difficulties because of the coronavirus pandemic.
  • The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control issued a statement on Monday urging South Carolinians to be “vigilant” during this holiday season.
  • A specific practice suggested by DHEC is aimed at university students. The agency encourages students to take the test now so they get the results before they go home on vacation and do the same before going back to campuses.
