Sault tribe stunned by shipment of nearly 1,000 doses of vaccine

The Sault Tribe has just received far more vaccines than they expected.

They were expecting a loading of 185 doses, as before, but what happened on Tuesday from Pfizer was almost 1,000.

The large and unexpected delivery of 975 doses means that they can schedule even more appointments than they initially thought. It also means that they need more needles and syringes – some doses of the vaccine do not have them.

Now the tribe is working to contact the elders over the phone and using ads on local radio stations.

The health division is prioritizing health division staff members, the elderly aged 60 and over and critical workers.

If you are a member of the Sault Tribe aged 60 or over, the tribe posted this letter on their website saying that you can schedule your COVID-19 vaccination appointment with the Sault Tribe Health Division by calling (906) 632-5200 , extension 45200. No one is required to receive a vaccination.

Meetings scheduled for:

  • January 5 at the Big Bear Arena in Sault Ste. Marie from 9 am to 4 pm
  • January 6 at the Big Bear Arena in Sault Ste. Marie Marie from 9 am to 4 pm
  • January 7 at the Big Bear Arena in Sault Ste. Marie Marie from 9am to 12pm

Non-native spouses are not eligible for vaccination by the tribe at this time.

Those who received a vaccine from Pfizer’s initial shipment are scheduled to receive their second dose on January 5.

Whoever received the vaccine from Moderna’s first shipment will receive a second dose on January 19.
