Saudi Arabia says it has intercepted ‘hostile target’ over Riyadh

Saudi Arabia has intercepted what they described as a “hostile target” over the capital Riyadh, state media revealed.

“I heard a loud sound and thought something had fallen out of the sky,” said one resident, reported to Agence France-Presse on Saturday. “The whole house was shaking.”

Official media did not say where the hostile target originated, but the country is under repeated attacks by Huthi rebels in Yemen.

Iranian-backed insurgents have been fighting for years to overthrow the internationally recognized government of Yemen, which is being supported by Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi intervention, begun in 2015, has faced international criticism for exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the impoverished nation.

Under the Trump administration, the Huthis were considered terrorists, something the new secretary of state, Antony Blinken, said he would review in an effort to alleviate the suffering.
