Video footage captured the moment Saudi Arabia intercepted a missile fired by Iran-backed fighters.

A military coalition led by Saudi Arabia said it intercepted a Yemen ballistic missile attack on Saturday that targeted Riyadh, the Saudi capital.

State news agency SPA reported that Lieutenant Colonel Civil Defense Mohammed Al-Hammadi said a ballistic missile was launched towards Riyadh by Iranian-backed Houthi fighters in Yemen.

He reported that the missile was “intercepted and destroyed”.

SPA also reported that there were no reports of deaths or injuries, with damage to only one house in the city.

Drones were also targeted at “civilians and civilian objects” aimed at the cities of Khamis Mushait and Jazan, SPA reported.

Reuters reported that Houthis then said he had fired nine drones at “sensitive targets” in Riyadh and six drones at military sites in the cities of Abha and Khamis Mushait.

The Houthi rebels toppled the Yemeni government in 2015, unleashing a civil war and a devastating humanitarian crisis.

They had previously claimed to have killed hundreds of Saudi soldiers and drone attacks on Saudi oil fields.

The missile came after an Israeli ship in the Gulf of Oman exploded earlier this week, with Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz saying his “initial assessment” was that Iran was responsible.
