“Saturday Night Live” hit Representative Matt Gaetz with a flurry of mocking jabs about his federal criminal investigation during the “Weekend Update” segment this week.
The Florida Republican is reportedly subject to a federal criminal investigation into whether or not he paid underage girls for sex. The investigation was made public last week in a report in The New York Times. Gaetz denied any criminal activity and claimed that the information was made public as part of an extortion plan against him.
“It is a horrible claim and it is a lie. The New York Times is publishing a story that I traveled with a 17 year old woman that is proven to be false. People can look at my travel records and see that this is not the case. . What is happening is an extortion from me and my family, “Gaetz told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson last week.
On Saturday, Colin Jost, who co-anchored the political news segment of the popular NBC skit show, took advantage of the plight of the Republican in trouble, as well as his subsequent denial. The presenter opened the show by describing the charges against Gaetz involving a 17-year-old girl.

“Because Gaetz believes that only voters should present an identity document,” Jost joked.
He continued: “It is also reported that Gaetz used to pay for sex with women he met online. This story was confirmed by all of his vibe.”
The comedian then turned his attention to the congressman’s statement to The New York Times, in which he denied the charges raised in his article.
“Matt Gaetz never paid for sex,” says the statement. “Matt Gaetz refutes all disgusting claims completely. Matt Gaetz has never been on any of these sites. Matt Gaetz values relationships in his past and hopes to marry the love of his life.”
Jost responded by playing with his own third-person counter-declaration.
“Colin Jost doesn’t believe you. Colin Jost thinks you have accessed all the sites,” he said. “Colin Jost thinks you should postpone sending out these wedding invitations.”

Gaetz proposed marriage to Ginger Luckey, a 26-year-old food analyst, in Mar-a-Lago in December 2020. The couple met at the Trump club in Florida earlier that year.
With that, Jost kicked things off to his co-host, Michael Che, who joked about President Biden’s “New Deal” and his stance on canceling student debts.
However, Jost quickly took back the reins to stack Gaetz further, as did the QAnon conspiracy theorists. He joked that QAnon believers, who often make baseless allegations of child abuse against left-wing figures and celebrities, have been relatively quiet about Gaetz’s plight.

“This is the craziest part of this story for me. An active congressman is being accused of child trafficking and QAnon people suddenly said, ‘No, I need more evidence,'” he said. “That was all for you! I mean, come on, think about it. Matt Gaetz’s girlfriend, she was supposedly 17, the 17th letter is Q, it all adds up! What are you waiting for? The storm has finally come and QAnon is like ‘you can’t believe everything you read on the internet’. “

Despite the federal investigation, as well as growing accusations of alleged misconduct with women in the past, Gaetz said he has no plans to resign.
