Satechi has launched a double-sided charger that can wirelessly charge an Apple Watch or AirPods – but not both at the same time – while we hope to save it from the accumulation of extra cables. The Satechi USB-C Watch AirPods charger features a Qi charging pad in the form of an AirPods Pro charging cover on one side and a charging “disk” for an Apple Watch on the other. The charger is now available exclusively from Apple for $ 49.95.
Satechi’s new charger has an aluminum construction, white finish and a small charge indicator light that fits perfectly into the minimalist design of Apple’s product. Due to the reversible nature of USB-C, switching between the Apple Watch and charging the AirPods requires only pulling the charger, turning it over and connecting it again. It cannot charge the watch and AirPods at the same time as some other charging stands or charging pads, but we hope the compact size will be worth the cost of this added convenience.
Having a charger coming out of your laptop or tablet, of course, has its own risks – I would definitely worry about situations where it could break. Then again, Apple is guilty of designing its own ridiculous charging devices, as it did with the original Apple Pencil. Satechi is not that extreme, and it definitely seems convenient.
