Satechi’s latest USB-C hub supports 4K at 60 Hz and 100 W pass-through

Satechi launched a new USB-C hub for its laptop to add all the ports it should have included in the first place. Although the port selection on the $ 99.99 USB-C On-the-Go Multiport Adapter is similar to other hubs, the high specifications of each port make the Satechi device worthy of attention. In addition to laptops, it also works with USB-C tablets, such as the recent iPad Pro models.

The hub has HDMI, which offers a maximum resolution of 4K and a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and USB-C PD pass-through charging of up to 100 W (although you have to supply your own power adapter). The cable to connect it to your device is not fixed as in some hubs, and Satechi provides two USB-C to USB-C cables with the hub. One is 1 m long and there is a second short cable that can be placed on the hub when you are traveling. Completing the selection, there is a VGA port that supports up to 1080p / 60Hz, two USB-A ports and one USB-C for data only, gigabit Ethernet and slots for SD and microSD cards.

Works with USB-C laptops and tablets.

We’ve seen many USB-C hubs offer similar specs in the past, but it’s less common to see them all offered together in such a convenient package. Sony’s MRW-S3 announced in 2019 offered 100W USB-C PD, but peaked at 4K / 30Hz. This Anker USB-C hub does 4K / 60Hz and “charges at up to 100W (minus 15W for operation)”, but it has a short USB-C host cable that is not removable. Satechi’s new hub also occupies only one USB-C port on your device, unlike others we’ve seen over the years.

It also offers the flexibility of an additional VGA port next to its HDMI port, although a Satechi support page notes that “the VGA port only supports mirroring”. This will likely make the VGA port more useful for connecting your laptop or tablet to a projector.

Satechi’s new hub is now available for $ 99.99 and until March 15, the company is offering a 20 percent discount if you use the code “MULTIPORT20”.
