Now we can add the young Kryptonian and butt-destroying supergirl to Warner Media’s ongoing efforts to duplicate (at least!) Each character in their DC Comics movies and TV listings, with Deadline reporting that Sasha Calle will play a new version of the character in Andy Muschietti’s next film Flash movie. Calle is best known for its role in Young people and the restless, where she has appeared in the last 283 or more episodes. (This is “since 2018” in non-soap language.)

Muschietti posted a video today on his Instagram, showing the moment when he revealed to Calle that she had been cast in the role, and is, you know, extremely cute and sweet. Calle was one of the supposedly more than 400 interpreters who auditioned for the role (apparently not even knowing what role they were going to be in for much of the process); among other things, she read with the film’s star, Ezra Miller, as part of the extensive verification process. Calle is the first Latinx actor to play the character, who is currently played by Melissa Benoist on the CW’s Arrowverse programs.

In the meantime, not much is known about The Flash, which has been in development for years, without much in the way of forward movement. The biggest news, of course, was the addition of Batman by Michael Keaton to the cast, making it clear that the film would probably be plunging heavily into the DC Comics multiverse. There is also the large part intended will not move on; Ray Fisher’s cyborg was originally scheduled to appear in the film, but his high-level disagreements with DC Films about alleged abusive treatment on the set of Justice League has completely burnt that particular land for now.
