The NFL announced the official Super Bowl LV team on Tuesday.
Carl Cheffers was named the game’s referee. He was the referee for Super Bowl LI and directed 17 playoff games throughout his career.
Judge Sarah Thomas will be part of the Cheffers team. Thomas will be the first woman to make a Super Bowl official. She is also the first woman to referee any NFL game.
“Sarah Thomas made history again as the first official woman in the Super Bowl,” said Troy Vincent, NFL’s executive vice president of football operations, in a statement. “His elite performance and commitment to excellence earned him the right to officiate at the Super Bowl. Congratulations to Sarah for this deserved tribute. “
Referee Fred Bryan, line judge Rusty Baynes, field judge James Coleman, side judge Eugene Hall, support judge Dino Paganelli and replay referee Mike Wimmer make up the rest of the team. Coleman joins Thomas on his Super Bowl debut, while the other referees will work on the game for the second time.
