Sarah Ferguson to speak to Bridgerton creator about his book being on TV – ‘I’m obsessed’ | Royal | News

The Duchess of York said she “loved” the series – which was described as Gossip Girl meets Downton Abbey – and admitted that she has watched it twice. Bridgerton is one of the most talked about TV shows since it was launched on the streaming service on Christmas Day.

The series takes place in Regency London and follows Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, as she tries to find a husband.

Sarah told Us Weekly: “I loved Bridgerton so much that I watched it twice, deliberately. I’m obsessed with that.

“I think Daphne is a fantastic character, as we see her learning about life.

“I love the way she learns to use her strong voice. It touched me because now is the time for women to speak up.”

Sarah added that she will speak to Bridgerton producer about turning her new book, Her Heart For A Compass, into a TV series.

The Duchess said: “The costumes and sets were also incredible.

“The way Betsy Beers and Shonda Rhimes created Bridgerton is fabulous and I was really impressed.

“I will definitely be talking to Shondaland about turning Her Heart for a Compass into a TV series.”

Sarah, nicknamed Fergie, found Lady Margaret after researching her ancestry and was fascinated because Margaret is her middle name.

She was inspired by her own experiences in writing the book.

The Duchess said: “Although her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch were close friends of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, I was unable to find out much about my namesake’s childhood and the idea that became Her Heart for a Compass was born.

“With real historical facts and events in hand, my imagination took over. I made up a story for her that incorporated real people and events, including some of my other ancestors.

“I created a friendship between my heroine and Princess Luisa, Queen Victoria’s sixth daughter, and drew many parallels from my life to Lady Margaret’s journey.”

Sarah has written her memoirs and is the author of several children’s books.

She was also an executive producer on the historic 2009 film The Young Victoria.

And she has been reading children’s books during the coronavirus pandemic on her YouTube channel, Storytime with Fergie and Friends.

Sarah said: “I have had a passion for historical research for a long time and for telling the stories of strong women through film and television.

“I am proud to bring my personal brand of historical fiction to the publishing world.”

Royalty wrote the book with the author Marguerite Kaye, who is described as her “collaborator and mentor”.

Mills & Boon is the UK’s number one romantic fiction publisher.
