San Francisco 49ers to hire Butch Barry from Packers

49ers are set to make an addition to their offensive technical team. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported on Friday Butch Barry would join San Francisco as an assistant coach on the offensive line.

Barry spent the last season as a senior analyst at Green Bay, where he was hired before the 2020 campaign. Before his stint at Packers, Barry was the offensive line coach at the University of Miami.

He made his debut as a coach at Southwest Minnesota State in 2004 as his offensive line coach. From there, he moved to Michigan Tech in 2006 as an offensive line coach and eventually became his offensive coordinator. He then jumped to North Greenville University and back to Central Michigan, where he played football in college and spent two years as a graduate assistant in 2002 and 2003.

Barry’s debut as a coach in the NFL came with the Buccaneers in 2015. He was the OL’s assistant coach for Tampa Bay for four years before taking over as OL coach with the University of Miami in 2019.

In San Francisco, he will work with OL coach Chris Foerster, who was an assistant to OL coach on last year’s team.
