Here is today’s update for COVID-19 from the County Human Services and Health Agency with data as of January 18.

ICU capacity and order of stay at home:

  • The current availability of beds in an intensive care unit (ICU) for the Southern California region is 0.0% and will be updated daily by the state.
  • O Regional home stay order is in place and prohibits meetings of any size with people from other families and adds restrictions for various sectors.
  • The order will last until the availability of ICUs in the region reaches or exceeds 15%.

Community configuration outbreaks:

  • Seven new community outbreaks were confirmed on January 18: three in TK-12 school settings, two in commercial settings, one in a government setting and one in a hotel / resort / spa.
  • No new outbreaks in the community were confirmed on January 17.
  • Twelve community outbreaks were confirmed on January 16: five in daycare centers / preschools / daycare centers, two in commercial settings, two in government settings, one in an emergency services setting, one in a health setting and one in a setting retail.
  • Seven community outbreaks were confirmed on January 15: three in commercial settings, two in emergency services, one in a residence and one in a restaurant.
  • In the past seven days (12 to 18 January), 47 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
  • The number of outbreaks in the community remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
  • An outbreak in a community setting is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in an environment and in people from different families in the past 14 days.

Test:

  • 12,675 tests were notified to the county on January 18, and the percentage of new positive cases was 20%.
  • The 14-day moving average percentage of positive cases is 12.1%. The target is less than 8.0%.
  • The daily average of 7-day tests is 24,333.
  • People at higher risk for COVID-19 with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should get tested. Healthcare professionals and essentials should also be tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are being highly affected. Those who have recently returned from a trip or who have participated in festive events should also take the test.

Cases:

  • 2,498 cases were reported to the county on January 18. The total for the region is now 216,835.
  • 8,484 or 3.9% of all cases required hospitalization.
  • 1,314 or 0.6% of all cases and 15.5% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to the intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • Six new deaths from COVID-19 were reported to the county on January 18. The total for the region is now 2,109.
  • Three women and three men died between 28 December and 9 January.
  • Of the six new deaths reported, five people who died were 80 years old or more and one person was 70 years old.
  • They all had underlying medical conditions.
  • No further COVID-19 deaths were reported to the county on January 17.
  • 38 new deaths from COVID-19 were reported to the county on January 16.
  • 13 women and 25 men died between 29 December and 15 January.
  • Of the 38 new deaths reported, 14 people who died were 80 years old or more, 13 people were in their 70s, five people in their 60s and six people in their 50s.
  • 34 had underlying medical conditions and four had pending medical history.
  • 28 new COVID-19 deaths were reported to the county on January 15.
  • 14 women and 14 men died between January 1 and January 14.
  • Of the 28 new deaths reported, 12 people who died were 80 years old or more, seven people were in their 70s, six people in their 60s and three people in their 50s.
  • 27 had underlying medical conditions and one had an outstanding medical history.
