San Diego County COVID-19 Update – 1/15/2021 | News

Here’s today’s COVID-19 update from the County Human Services and Health Agency with data as of January 14, 2021.

ICU capacity and order of stay at home:

  • The current availability of beds in intensive care units (ICUs) for the Southern California region is 0.0% and will be updated daily by the state.
  • The regional residence order is in effect and prohibits meetings of any size with people from other families and adds restrictions for various sectors.
  • The order will last until the availability of ICUs in the region reaches or exceeds 15%.

Community configuration outbreaks:

  • Seven new community outbreaks were confirmed on January 14: two in commercial settings, two in healthcare settings, one in a hotel / resort / spa, one in a religious setting and one in a retail setting.
  • In the past seven days (8 to 14 January), 44 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
  • The number of outbreaks in the community remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
  • An outbreak in a community setting is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in an environment and in people from different families in the past 14 days.

Test:

  • 30,851 tests were notified to the county on January 14, and the percentage of new positive cases was 9%.
  • The 14-day moving average percentage of positive cases is 13.2%. The target is less than 8.0%.
  • The daily average of 7-day exams is 27,417.
  • People at higher risk for COVID-19 with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should get tested. Healthcare professionals and essentials should also be tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are being highly affected. Those who have recently returned from a trip or who have participated in festive events should also take the test.

Cases:

  • 2,695 cases were reported to the county on January 14. The total for the region is now 206,870.
  • 7,146 or 3.5% of all cases required hospitalization.
  • 1,288 or 0.6% of all cases and 18% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • 32 new deaths from COVID-19 were reported to the county on January 14. The region’s total is now 2,037.
  • 16 men and 16 women died between January 5 and 14.
  • Of the 32 new deaths reported, 16 people who died were 80 years old or more, seven people were in their 70s, four people in their 60s, one person in their 50s, three people in their 40s and one in the house of the 30s.
  • 30 had underlying medical conditions, one did not and one had an outstanding medical history.
