San Diego Comic-Con is happening this year in some form or form. Although Comic-Con International formally canceled the traditional summer convention earlier this year, the organization announced the dates for a smaller convention it plans to host later this year. According to a new press release distributed by the organizers of Comic-Con, the San Diego Comic-Con will now take place at the San Diego Convention Center on Thanksgiving weekend. Instead of a weeklong event, this year’s San Diego Comic-Con will be an intimate three-day event, lasting from Friday, November 26, to Sunday, November 28.
The company is calling this year’s convention “Special Comic-Con Edition”, and the cost of the emblem, service capacity and “related information” has not yet been decided by the organizers and employees of the convention center.
“Although we were able to move from face-to-face meetings to limited online events, the loss of revenue had an acute impact on the organization, as with many small businesses, requiring reduced working hours and reduced wages for employees, among other issues,” he said. Comic-Con spokesman David Glanzer in a statement distributed by the organization. “We hope that this event will strengthen our financial reserves and mark a slow return to major personal meetings in 2022.”
Like virtually all other conventions in 2020, Comic-Con was canceled due to the global pandemic COVID-19. Now that vaccines are beginning to be readily available in the United States, the country has slowly started to reopen with social events. Last month, both New York and California – two of the last remnants across the country – began reopening their theaters with limited capacity.
“Southern California, you will be a beneficiary of this,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said of the state of the theater. “Specifically, LA will be a major beneficiary of this new metric that is likely to be achieved on Friday. And moving forward over the weekend and next week, you’ll see more activity, more loosening of the layers. This is encouraging and I hope people will be excited about what it means in the future, because we have a number of other limits and other goals that will allow us to move forward with more clarity, more conviction and more confidence as we move forward in the next few weeks and the next few months. “
