Koei Tecmo revealed the appearance of two veteran characters in Samurai Warriors 5, Oichi and Azai Nagamasa. The next title uses a Japanese painting aesthetic to redraw its characters. Samurai Warriors 5 will be launched in the West on July 27, 2021.
According to the Koei Tecmo website, the company had already shown nine characters from the game. With the ads of Oichi and Azai Nagamasa in Samurai Warriors 5, which increases the list of known fighters to 11. The base game will feature 27 warriors, so we can expect Koei Tecmo to reveal more makeovers in the coming months, before the title’s release in the summer. Officially revealed on Nintendo Direct in February 2021, Samurai Warriors 5 and his characters like Oichi and Azai Nagamasa have a new art direction based on Japanese painting techniques. The game will be the first new main entry in the series since Samurai Warriors 4, in 2014. As for the history of the game, Samurai Warriors 5 will focus on Mitsuhide Akechi and Nobunaga Oda. The title will recount the events that led to the Honno-Ji incident during the Sengoku period from two different perspectives.
In addition, Koei Tecmo has partnered with many IP holders to create series like Hyrule Warriors, Fire Emblem Warriors, and One Piece: Pirate Warriors. Koei Tecmo studios, like Team Ninja and Omega Force, often develop these titles.
Samurai Warriors 5 will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam. The release date in Japan is June 24, 2021, while overseas territories will see the game launch a month later, on July 27, 2021.
