Samsung’s smart home vision includes smarter refrigerators and vacuums

There are also new tools here for the novice cook or nutritionist – you can plan a week-long family meal on a calendar for everyone to see, and a connection to a Samsung cooking app provides meal inspiration, automated ordering of ingredients, and guided cooking instructions transmitted through the refrigerator’s 25 W speaker. Ironically, although it is a refrigerator for families, there is no way to load your family recipes in the complementary application; they are all selected from sources approved by the Samsung teams.

Meanwhile, the company’s latest robot vacuum – the JetBot 90 AI + – pairs the usual LiDAR array for ambient detection with a series of cameras powered by image recognition algorithms on the Intel device. We were told that the JetBot can identify objects as small as 5 nm and, after finding out what it is looking at, make immediate decisions about how to deal with – or get around them – as needed.

If they are small and round, the JetBot can determine the objects to spill, cereal or pet food and plow through them. What if the object has the visual characteristics of dog poop? Well, in that case, the JetBot can choose to stay away, so as not to stain your pet’s dirt on its clean floor. JetBot can even detect people; if that happens and you are not around, the vacuum will send a notification to inform you.

In addition to AI recognition intelligence, you can configure the JetBot to avoid certain areas and schedule cleaning sessions, as always. And perhaps best of all, all the debris that the JetBot collects is dumped into the dock when completed, so you don’t have to worry about cleaning the little robot after each trip around your room.

Now that we’re spending more time at home than ever, buying smart appliances may not be such a bad idea. Samsung has not yet provided prices for any of these smart home appliances, but expects to see them hit store shelves soon.
