Samsung’s next Chromebook can swap out a 4K screen to improve battery life

After a rendering leak earlier in the week, more information about Samsung’s Galaxy Chromebook 2 was found online, including pricing details. A marketing slide shared by the Microsoft informant WalkingCat suggests that the device will feature a 13.3-inch QLED screen with wide DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, a 10th generation Core i3 processor and something like 12 hours of battery life . It will also include taller speakers, WiFi 6 connectivity and a slightly heavier frame than its predecessor.

For context, the first Galaxy Chromebook includes a 4K AMOLED screen and a 10th generation 14nm Intel i5 CPU. This combination of components is the main culprit behind the notoriously poor battery life of the Galaxy Chromebook. In his review of the 2020 model, Nathan Ingraham of Engadget found that he would not be able to use even four hours of use of the Galaxy Chromebook before the battery ran out. The statement on the slide above suggests that Samsung received the memo on battery life.
