Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch may launch sooner than expected

It won’t be long before Samsung launches the Galaxy Watch 4, according to a new report. The wearable, which has been at the center of rumors for the past few weeks, may be available as early as spring, which is just around the corner.

According UniverseIce, Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4 will be available in the second quarter of 2021. No exact date is shared, but previous reports have suggested a similar period of time, so we believe the devices will be launched soon. (It’s March already!)

UniverseIce does not share any other information, but the Twitter account said earlier that Samsung will launch a new smartwatch with Wear OS instead of Tizen. If true, it could be a big boost for Google’s wearable platform, which hasn’t exactly thrived in recent months. The launch of a new smartwatch with Wear OS can be a big vote of confidence for the platform and perhaps help to get it to compete with Apple’s watchOS.

We heard some other rumors about Samsung’s next smartwatch, including that it may come equipped with a blood glucose monitor. According to a previous report, the wearable could use an optical sensor capable of monitoring a person’s blood glucose without drawing blood, which is usually how a person’s blood sugar is monitored. For people with diabetes, this can be a huge improvement over the painful alternatives currently available. By the way, the next Apple Watch can also be launched with a similar feature.

Not so long ago, Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch 3, which featured support for ECG, blood pressure monitoring and a host of activity tracking features. The launch of the Galaxy Watch 4 would be much earlier than anticipated, but if it comes with the ability to monitor a person’s blood glucose levels, we can see why Samsung would like to launch it sooner or later .
