As part of the “First Look” in preparation for CES 2021, Samsung introduced new TVs with the name “Neo QLED”. The new QLED televisions use mini-LED backlighting to allow local dimming of full matrix with subdivision into significantly smaller zones.
Samsung Electronics today unveiled its 2021 portfolio of Neo QLED, MICRO LED and Lifestyle TV monitors during its first virtual event before CES 2021. Miniled can be found on Samsung’s new QLED TVs, which Samsung issues Neo QLED. There are two main models that offer 4K and 8K resolutions. Information on formats, prices and release dates is not yet known.
With minilates, very small LED lights are placed behind the pixels on the screen to illuminate the image. According to Samsung, lamps are 40 times smaller than conventional LEDs. An advantage of the minilate is, in addition to the greater contrast and brightness, that there is practically no chance of burning, which can happen with OLED TVs over time
Samsung also showed some new features of Neo QLED televisions. Most impressive is a “Super Ultra Wide GameView” that allows the image of PC games to be enlarged to a ratio of 32 to 9. Black bars will appear below and above the game screen.
In the coming years, Samsung will embark on a journey of “Going Green” in the alignment of commercial TV operations through the following long-term sustainability programs:
- Reducing the carbon footprint and Improve energy efficiency: Samsung will seek to systematically decrease its overall carbon footprint in the manufacture of TVs. The company will also seek to reduce the user’s energy consumption and use more recycled materials across its TV line.
- Sustainable packaging design: Based on valuable consumer feedback, Samsung is expanding its award winning ‘Eco-packaging’ design for all 2021 Lifestyle TVs and most of the 2021 Neo QLED line. This sustainable solution can increase the cycle up to 200,000 tons of corrugated boxes each year.1 By minimizing text and graphic images in the eco-friendly packaging, the oil-based ink from color printing that is traditionally used in TV boxes is eliminated, helping to reduce waste even further.
- Remote control of solar cell: In 2021, Samsung TVs will come with a remote control powered by solar energy that can be recharged by internal light, external light or USB – an unprecedented innovation for the brand. This will help to avoid wasting 99 million projected AAA batteries over seven years.two To build the remote control, Samsung innovated the manufacturing process that optimizes plastics from recyclable bottles – including 24% recycled content.3
Samsung’s 2021 accessibility features – now available on all 2021 QLED and Neo QLED models – bring the latest advances in technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help more people comfortably enjoy their TV experience. The 2021 line adds new features, such as Caption movement, Sign language zoom and Multiple output audio, giving people with hearing impairments, deaf people, people with low vision and blind people the ability to optimize their vision according to their needs and preferences. In 2022, Samsung is committed to expanding its Voice Guide feature – which provides audio guidance for people with deaf and people with low vision. And Samsung will continue to develop new AI-based features to improve the accessibility of Samsung TVs for years to come.
Neo QLED takes a quantum leap in TV screen technology
Samsung is introducing a whole new display technology, Neo QLED, for your flagship models 8K (QN900A) and 4K (QN90A). Samsung is taking QLED to the next level enabled by a new light source, Quantum Mini LED precisely controlled by Quantum Matrix Technology and Neo Quantum processor, a powerful image processor optimized for Neo QLED.
Samsung designed the Quantum Mini LED be 1/40 the height of a conventional LED. Instead of using a lens to disperse light and a package to fix the LED in place, Quantum Mini LED has incredibly thin micro layers filled with many more LEDs. Quantum Matrix Technology allows ultrafine and precise control of densely packed LEDs, preventing flowering – and allowing viewers to enjoy content as it should be viewed. Neo QLED increases the luminance scale to 12 bits with 4096 steps; this helps to make dark areas darker and brighter ones lighter, resulting in a more accurate and immersive HDR experience. And Neo QLED benefits from the powerful and exclusive Neo Quantum processor with enhanced upscaling capabilities. Using up to 16 different neural network models, each trained in AI upscaling and deep learning technology, the Neo Quantum processor can optimize image quality for 4K and 8K image output, regardless of input quality.
Samsung’s 2021 Neo QLED 8K presents a new Infinity One Design—A nearly frameless screen, providing an even more immersive viewing experience in an elegant design and shape. The 2021 Neo QLED 8K also includes several premium audio features that fill the room; Object Tracking Sound (OTS) Prothe dynamic sound of corresponds to the movement of objects on the screen, and SpaceFit Sound analyzes the physical environment of the installed TV and emits personalized surround sound specifically for your space.

- Samsung Health perfectly turns the house into a personal gym, and the new Smart Trainer The feature tracks and analyzes posture in real time, just like a personal trainer. With video and interactive training via voice control enabled for Bixby, the Samsung Health Smart Trainer elevates and personalizes the exercise experience at home.
- With two new exclusive features, Samsung offers the best TV gaming experience. Super Ultra Wide GameView gives players the option to play not only in the wide aspect ratio of 21: 9, but even in the ultra-large aspect ratio of 32: 9. The wider field of view ensures that players don’t miss a moment of the action. AND Game Bar allows players to quickly monitor and adjust critical aspects of the game – whether by changing aspect ratios, checking input delay or connecting a headset. Finally, FreeSync Premium Pro minimizes chatter so that players enjoy smooth image quality while playing.
- With Google Duo, consumers can use their phone to initiate a high-quality, high-speed video call in which up to 32 people can participate – regardless of the operating system they are using. With the Google Duo app, you can make video calls directly via an optional USB connection. And with the smart camera solution, the camera can follow your movements. It will automatically zoom in and out so you get the right size, always in focus.
- PC on TV on Samsung devices it allows consumers to connect a PC to the TV, allowing them to work and learn at home through the TV screen with a connected mouse, keyboard and PC. Consumers can also directly access MS Office 365 through the TV browser to create and edit documents. Just install an Easy Connection app on your computer and log in to your Samsung account – and your TV will automatically connect to your PC, making work in the living room easier.
Opening a new era of breathtaking design and image quality with MICRO LED
In 2021, the Micro LED promise comes home. Like New MICRO LED line, Samsung made Micro LED available in a traditional TV format for the first time – bringing consumers a breathtaking visual experience on a next-generation ultra-large screen.
Available in 110 ”, 99 ”, and in smaller sizes by the end of the year, the new MICRO LED line uses LED lights the size of a micrometer to eliminate the backlight and color filters used in conventional monitors.
