Samsung reportedly pulls the One UI 3.1 update from the Galaxy S20 FE

Since the older Galaxy flagships received One UI 3.0 only recently, we did not expect Samsung to also bring the latest version of the Galaxy S21 3.1 to these phones in the near future. However, the company decided to give its existing customers a pleasant surprise by kick-starting the launch. At the moment, the Galaxy S20 FE is already receiving its One UI 3.1 update, leaving behind its most premium siblings from last year.

Many Galaxy S20 FE 5G owners from Europe went to Reddit earlier today to report receiving a 1.7 GB update that includes One UI 3.1 and the February security patch. With this construction, you can expect the integration of Google Discover on the home screen, Google Home device controls in quick settings, and several new video call effects between apps, among other things. Early users noted that certain features of the S21, such as the Director’s Vision, have not been transferred to the budget flagship.

SamMobile can confirm that the update has already been published in European markets, including the Baltic region, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Nordic countries, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. If you are in any of these countries holding a Galaxy S20 FE 5G, you can go to the software update section in the settings application to look for the update notification.

It is important to note that only the 5G model of the S20 FE is receiving One UI 3.1 as of now, while we have no news about the 4G variant only. Considering that the update is now available for the Tab S7 / S7 + and is now coming to non-flagship phones, we hope that more Samsung devices will make the list as soon as possible.

Update pulled

According to a report by SamMobile, Samsung halted the One UI 3.1 update of the S20 FE just days after its launch. We don’t have an official word on what exactly motivated this decision, but a small subset of Reddit users began to experience performance issues, faster battery consumption and unreliable SMS notifications after installing the latest build.

Something similar happened last month, when Samsung had to pull the Android 11 update from the Galaxy S10 due to some camera and heating issues, which took a few weeks to fix. In the absence of a formal Samsung announcement, you can expect a comparable timeline on the S20 FE case as well.
