Earlier this year, Samsung launched a new batch of premium phones on the Galaxy s21 line up, and now the company returned to give its mid-range appliances a makeover.

Meet the new Galaxy A72, A52 and A52 5G. All three phones share similar specifications, but there are subtle differences between the two A52 models and the A72. Both the A52 and the A52 5G share the same 6.5-inch 2400 x 1080 AMOLED screen, however, in addition to support for 5G (sub6 Ghz 0 just for now), the A52 5G also comes with a refresh rate of 120 Hz (but not VRR), while the standard A52 has to settle for just a 90Hz display. That said, considering that high-update screens have been largely restricted to high-end high-end phones, it is good to see this technology slip into cheaper devices.

In addition to the refresh rate and 5G, the A52s are practically the sameand. Both have a 32 MP selfie camera, quad rear cameras (64 MP main, 12 MP ultra-wide, 5 MP macro and 5 MP depth), 4,500 mAh batteries and configurations with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage or 8 GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. (The standard A52 may also be available with only 4 GB of RAM, but it is unclear whether this model will be available in the USA)

The A72, on the other hand, it features a slightly larger 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate, a larger 5,000 mAh battery and a rear camera module that swaps the depth camera for a 3x optical zoom telephoto camera. All three phones also have IP67 water resistance.

Inside, Samsung’s new A-series phones will run Android 11 based on Samsung’s One UI 3.o, with new mid-range devices getting the same commitment for three years of software updates and four years of security patches. that the Galaxy S line likes, which may be the best for a long timeterm support outside of Apple iPhones.

Samsung also included a handful of useful features like 4K Video Snap, which allows you to capture 8 MP snapshots of 4K video clips, a scene optimizer mode, which automatically adjusts photos to best suit your subject and stereo speakers for better audio.

The names of the four colors that Samsung is using in the new A series are (wait): Incredible violet, Incredible blue, Incredible black and Incredible white. Impressive.

The new A-series phones still have two things that their more expensive siblings don’t have: support for microSD expansion capability and an included power supply. Now you will still have to buy your microSD card separately, but for those who were annoyed by the lack of support for microSD in Samsung’s latest flagships, it’s nice to see that Samsung hasn’t completely given up on expandable storage.

Strangely, there doesn’t seem to be an A72 5G on the way, which is a little disappointing for those who like bigger phones with telephoto and 5G cameras, but depending on the eventual price, the existence of an A72 5G may have cannibalized sales of the standard Galaxy S21 . In addition, although Samsung only mentioned support for sub-6Ghz 5G on the A52 5G, I wouldn’t be surprised if American operators end up offering adjusted models with support for mmWave 5G as well.

Unfortunately, the lack of some details expected. Why today is just the global announcement, Samsung did not disclose details in terms of pricing, local availability or even which processors will be used in the US models, although we hope to find out closer to its launch later this spring.

Yet, for people who don’t care about 5G or who are just looking for a new generation of mid-range devices with many of the most sophisticated features available at the S21 linI p, Samsung’s new A-series phones has a solid foundation. We will have to wait and see how much they cost to determine how good they really are.
