Samsung debuted One UI 3.1 with its Galaxy S21 series, but recently pledged to bring it to other Galaxy devices, including the Z Fold2. Although the feature set is very similar across devices, the folding phone is getting a few more tweaks to suit its unique shape.

The first improvements are related to multitasking – welcome additions to make the most of the tablet-sized internal screen. It will now be possible to return directly to up to three multi-active windows previously opened via the recent applications menu on the main screen and up to two on the external screen. There is also a new way to open multi-active windows – simply press and hold, drag and drop a notification.

Accessibility has also been improved in the Flex mode of the camera application; the position of the camera controls is now adjustable. The preview window also has delete and share buttons, making it easier to manage photos and videos.

What’s more, the notifications in the Quick Panel are categorized and the weather widgets on the cover and on the main screens are synchronized (a little absurd that they are not yet). There are also some visual adjustments to the UI that include a redesigned vertical volume slider, updated light and dark themes, and a slightly updated video call interface.

The implementation of the update is already underway. If you have not yet received it, be sure to check it manually at Settings> About device> Software update. Samsung makes no mention of the OG Fold, so it is possible that these features will not reach it.
