SINGAPORE – Samsung said on Monday that its next smartphone announcement will take place on January 14, where it is expected to launch the newest versions of its flagship Galaxy phones.

Invitations sent by the world’s largest smartphone maker say the event will be broadcast on the Samsung website at 10am ET (11pm SIN / HK) next Thursday.

The launch is scheduled to take place in the same week as CES 2021 only digital – the biggest technology fair of the year, where large companies usually show their new products.

South Korea’s electronics giant Samsung typically launches its Galaxy devices in February, near or during the Mobile World Congress.

Samsung did not reveal much in its invitation to the January 14 event. However, media reports of past leaks suggest that there may be three phones announced: Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra, which are likely to succeed the company’s S20 devices.

Last year, the South Korean company said its third quarter earnings were partially driven by smartphone sales, including the Galaxy Note 20. But Samsung predicted there would be intense competition in the smartphone and consumer electronics segment in the last quarter of the year. year, which analysts said is probably due to Apple’s iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

Samsung President and Head of Mobile Communications Business TM Roh said in a blog post in December that Samsung will expand its portfolio of foldable smartphones, making these devices “more accessible to everyone” in 2021. These devices are the most Samsung’s expensive smartphone product family, with the Galaxy Z Flip costing almost $ 1,400.

Roh also sparked “professional-grade camera and video features” on Samsung’s new smartphones and suggested that some of the features available on Galaxy Note devices could be added to other devices.

Samsung Electronics’ shares in South Korea were up almost 3% on Monday.
