Finally we got our hands on the Galaxy S21 + to complete our Galaxy S21 line and started working on its analysis. But in the meantime, let’s scale it up to its peers.
Before we go side by side, here’s a brief unpacking – you pick up the phone, a SIM tool and a USB-C to USB-C cable. If you want the recommended 25 W charger, you will need to pay an extra € 20 for it.
What’s in the box and what’s not
The Galaxy S21 + is the mid-size option in the Galaxy S21 series. Its screen is 0.5 inches bigger than the Galaxy S21 and its battery is 800mAh bigger. We can confirm that so far we have seen incredible battery life for the Galaxy S21 + – about 19 hours of video playback, for example. This is much more than the Galaxy S21 and even better than the Galaxy S21 Ultra with its high resolution screen.
Another fundamental difference between the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21 + is the latter’s double glass design. The Galaxy S21 has a plastic panel, while the Galaxy S21 + uses Gorilla Glass Victus at both ends – it’s a notable difference, like using a plastic laptop touchpad and immediately touching a glass one.
Samsung Galaxy S21 next to the Galaxy S21
When the Plus is scaled in relation to the Ultra, we see a less marked difference. The screen of the Galaxy S21 Ultra is only 0.1 inch larger, but the panel is curved and can run at a higher resolution of 1440p. The Ultra panel also makes a more advanced adaptive refresh rate, where it can go to 120 Hz, but also as low as 10 Hz, the Galaxy S21 can only drop to 48 Hz.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra also has a more versatile camera set, but the Galaxy S21 + must be more than capable on its own.
Samsung Galaxy S21 + and Galaxy S21 Ultra
The initial reactions to this year’s Samsung Galaxy S line were that those looking for a compact and / or cheap phone will go for the vanilla S21, while those who must have the absolute best will get the Ultra, leaving the S21 + in no-man’s land. .
However, another way of looking at things is that the Galaxy S21 + is really the most sensible choice – offering you all the key features you need without breaking the bank.
Our review is ongoing and we should know what the most accurate description of the S21 + is next week – stay tuned!
