Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2: Premium at a better price (and better battery life?)

This story is part of CES, where our editors will present the latest news and the hottest gadgets from CES 2021 entirely virtual.

O Samsung Galaxy Chromebook it’s a beautiful 13.3 inches Chrome OS two in one with a beautiful AMOLED screen with 4K resolution and a powerful Intel Core i5 processor. It is also $ 1,000 and has a relatively short battery life compared to some of its less costly competition. For its second round, the Galaxy Chromebook 2, Samsung has made some feature adjustments to lower the price – and hopefully improve battery life – while maintaining the same premium look as the original.

Announced before CES 2021, the new model will be the first with 13.3 inches QLED display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, which can be found on some Windows 10 laptops from Samsung. This change alone should help battery life, but Samsung has also delved into configurations using an Intel Core i3-10110U or Celeron 5205U processor.

The Celeron configuration, which also has 4 GB of memory and 64 GB of storage, is expected to sell for $ 550, while the Core i3 model with twice as much memory and storage will cost $ 700. These prices convert to approximately £ 400 and £ 515 for the UK and AU $ 710 and AU $ 900 for Australia.

Much of the rest of the package remains the same as the original, including a weight of less than 3 pounds (1.2 kg), a thin aluminum chassis, a lighted keyboard and a matching color touchpad. You’ll also find two USB-C ports, a headset and a microSD card slot.

What you won’t find is one of Samsung’s S Pens. Although the company’s thin active pen is included in the first generation model, Samsung has removed it in favor of the USI pen holder. The world-facing camera above the Chromebook Galaxy keyboard has also disappeared. Both seem acceptable sacrifices to lower the price.
