Samsung Galaxy A52 is the continuation of Samsung’s best-selling phone

Samsung may be the most popular phone manufacturer in the world, but that does not mean that its best phone, the Galaxy S series, is the most popular phone in the world. Samsung remains at the top of the sales charts with the strength of its midsize smartphones, and last year (at least for a few quarters) the company’s best-selling phone was the Samsung Galaxy A51.

So: meet the Galaxy A52, the continuation of the leader of the Samsung charts. These phones are so important now that Samsung gave them a presentation, their third online program in a few months.

There is a lot to talk about in this table. First, Samsung launched the Galaxy A72 in its presentation alongside the A52. It is the most expensive phone in the group, but I don’t know why anyone would buy it if they had access to the A52 5G, which has a faster display and a faster SoC. The A72 has a slightly bigger battery, but it also has a bigger screen, so I’m not sure if that will result in significantly longer runtime. The details of availability are in the air now, so maybe the regions will receive the A52 5G or the A72, but not both? Speaking of availability, Samsung announced prices only in euros, so for now, we only know that they are destined for some place in Europe. Samsung will likely expand the launch over time.

The A52 5G seems to be the best in the group, offering a 120 Hz screen for around $ 500, but everything with a screen of at least 90 Hz is great. The “5G” here means 5G below 6 GHz, not the most expensive and almost nonexistent 5G mmWave you get on the main phones. The other two models are only 4G. All phones have most of the extras you want, like IP67 water and dust resistance, NFC, stereo speakers, USB-C and a MicroSD slot that can also function as a second SIM slot. The only things missing are a headset (which is still a possibility for medium-sized phones) and wireless charging.

The designs of the three phones are identical. At the front, you have a punctured camera, a flat screen and thin bezels, but still a little thicker than you would find in a high-end phone. This is a medium-sized device, so the back is plastic instead of glass, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The plastic is easy to shape, so the back is a whole piece, with the plastic rising to form the camera block, leaving only round cutouts for each lens. In addition to the usual black and white tones, there are also pastel blue and purple versions.

So many cameras

There are a ton of cameras: four on the back of each phone, along with an LED flash making it possible to also look like a camera lens. The cameras on all three phones appear to be identical, except for the A72 and a depth camera for a 3X telephoto. Samsung made a big fuss about adding the main optical image stabilization camera this year, which was not the case on the A51.

Samsung is really improving its game when it comes to software. They come with Android 11 and come with three years of major operating system updates and four years of “regular” (not necessarily monthly) security updates. These midsize Samsung phones have longer software support than you’ll get from Google’s Pixel line.

Phones are now available in Europe.
