Samsung files for the trademark name of its cool new Galaxy Note 21 feature

By moving the technology needed for a front-facing camera, including the lens, under the screen, phone manufacturers will be able to get rid of a notch, a punch camera and even a pop-up camera. The trademark application mentions that UPC stands for Under Panel Camera and even states that we should see the technology offered in TV screen panels in addition to smartphone screens.

Last week Samsung released a video in conjunction with the start of the 2021 Consumer Electronics Show. The video released by Samsung discussing the company’s recycling program showed a phone that has not yet been revealed by the manufacturer. This device had no drilling hole or any opening that could be used for a front camera. Some believe that this device is the Samsung Galaxy Note 21. Without a hole for the selfie snapper, the video may be telling us that Sammy’s main line in the second half of 2021 will employ UPC technology.

Samsung is not the only phone manufacturer with a camera system under the display. In fact, the ZTE Axon 20 5G was the first on the market with this feature. Last week, one Huawei’s design patent for a camera under the display was placed online after it was registered with the National Intellectual Property Office of China.
