Samsung causes its first sub-display camera, but it is not reaching phones

In September last year, ZTE unveiled the world’s first phone with a camera under the display. Although the ZTE Axon 20 5G is currently the only phone with an on-screen selfie camera, the technology is expected to become a little more common by the end of this year. It is rumored that Samsung, which has long been working on camera technology with a lower screen, will also launch its first built-in camera phone this year.

Although Samsung has not yet detailed its camera technology under the display, Samsung Display today posted a video on Weibo, showing its new OLED panels with selfie cameras under the display. However, the new Samsung Display under-display technology is not intended for use on smartphones. It will come first for notebooks.

As can be seen in the video above, the camera technology under Samsung’s screen will enable notebooks to have almost frameless screens with a screen-to-body ratio of 93%. The panel is also incredibly thin, at just 1mm and weighs 130g. Samsung Display has not yet released any further details about the technology, so it is unclear whether the first notebooks with Samsung’s “Blade Bezel” screens will arrive later this year.

It is rumored that Samsung’s first phone with a camera under the display is the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which will be a continuation of one of the best Android phones launched last year. Since the folding phone is only expected to launch in the second half of the year, we can learn more about Samsung’s on-screen camera technology for phones in the coming months.
