Sakurai explains why Xenoblade Rex is not a DLC Smash Ultimate fighter

Over the past week Super Smash Bros. Ultimate presentation, Sakurai explained how the team considered having Xenoblade Chronicles 2The protagonist of Rex fought alongside Pyra and Mythra, but it was simply not possible due to the limitations of the game.

Sakurai has already elaborated on this in his last column of Famitsu, once again explaining how the idea that the team had in mind (of two different fighters at the same time) was discarded due to technical barriers. In the end, it was decided that the fighter would transform into two similar but different characters.

Here is the complete translation, courtesy of Ryokutya2089 (via Siliconera):

“When it was decided that we should create a character of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the first thing I thought about was showing and moving Rex and Pyra at the same time on the screen. But the conclusion that it is impossible came at the same speed. In a way, I asked the team to inspect, but it was impossible. “

“When we talk about 2 people who move as a single group, there are Ice Climbers. They look the same and can only do the same things. When we tried Rex + Pyra, it was clear that we couldn’t do an essential task to have your [data] capacity exceeds a processing load limit. “

“The system for having Rex as the main fighter and Pyra overseeing him was also determined to be difficult. The design was so complex that many things would have to be done ”.

“Rex would have to be moved on his own. But then I thought it would be better if we could switch between Pyra and Mythra. “

So that’s why Rex didn’t make the cut as a DLC fighter. At least he managed to participate in the final hit scene for the new DLC fighter. What do you think of the last character two in one? Did you expect Rex to be a playable character? Share your ideas below.
