Saints’ Drew Brees captured on training video amid retirement rumors: ‘Something must be happening’

The overwhelming majority believe that Drew Brees is retiring. But after a recent video appeared on social media, there may be a chance that the legendary New Orleans Saints quarterback will return for another season.

Fitness coach Todd Durkin posted a video on his Instagram that showed Brees pushing a sleigh with weights and Durkin shouting at the quarterback throughout the video.

“What’s he doing? … Drew, what are you doing? OK, he never did that! … I don’t know what he’s doing … I’m not sure what he’s doing,” said Durkin . “It has never been done before! … It is a new record because it has never been done before!”

In the middle of training, Durkin wrote in the video: “I’m not sure why he is such an ace [crazy] today, but something must be brewing. “

At this point, many expected Brees to announce his retirement from the NFL, but, surprisingly, he did not.

Brees has played 20 seasons in the NFL, 15 of which with the Saints. He is the all-time leader of the NFL in passes with 80,358 yards, and his 571 career touchdown passes are second only to Tom Brady’s 581.

Last season, Brees led the Saints to nine wins in 12 regular matches. New Orleans came out with a wild card victory over the Chicago Bears, but the Saints’ season came to an end in the divisional round for eventual Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay.

Brees lost four games in 2020 with several fractured ribs and a collapsed lung. It was the second consecutive season that Brees had to miss part of a season due to an injury. In 2019, Brees lost five games because of a thumb injury to his throwing hand that required surgery.
