SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Prosecutors filed a lawsuit against a Sacramento man suspected of fraudulently stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars of unemployment in California.
The Sacramento County Public Prosecutor’s Office says that in early December, a man named Walter Lee Dawson was arrested after a probation check found a Glock pistol without a serial number, $ 58,000 in cash and drugs.
But prosecutors say that was not all that was found. A total of nine EDD debit cards issued under different names and about 20 EDD documents for various people were also discovered.
Investigators claim that Dawson stole about $ 219,000 with EDD cards.
Dawson now faces nine new charges of EDD fraud. He is due to be prosecuted for the charges on Monday.

If convicted, with him already having a previous strike for theft, the prosecutor’s office says Dawson faces a maximum sentence of 19 years and 4 months in state prison.
