Sacha Baron Cohen wants outgoing President Donald Trump banned from all social media platforms.
After Twitter, Facebook and Instagram suspended the president from their respective platforms after the Capitol riots, the actor now expects YouTube to join the line and ban Trump’s account as others have done.
On Twitter, the 49-year-old actor asked Alphabet employees, namely YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki and Google CEO Sundar Pichai to suspend Trump’s account from his video sharing platform and make ” right thing “for America’s democracy.
“Virtually every social media company has removed Trump … EXCEPT for YouTube. Trump’s YouTube channel STILL shows videos of his election lies to millions of people! Retweet and tell @Google, @sundapichai, @YouTube, @SusanWojcicki – do the right thing #BanTrumpSaveDemocracy, ”Cohen wrote on Twitter.
In another tweet, the “Borat” star called YouTube “Trump TV” and criticized companies that ran video ads that allegedly incited protesters to break into the Capitol.
“YouTube is the new Trump TV. Trump’s YouTube channel shows +4,000 Trump videos, including ‘stop stealing’ and calls ‘to fight!’ Corporate America – WHY are you running your ads on You Tube Trump TV ?! RT to inform @Google, @YouTube, @SusanWojcicki. #BanTrumpSaveDemocracy, ”Cohen tweeted.
In addition to Cohen, actress Amy Schumer also hit tech giants for not taking any action on Trump’s behalf and noted that these companies are giving the president a platform to spread “lies and conspiracies”.
Other notable personalities like Chelsea Handler, Judd Apatow, Monica Lewinsky and Lawrence O’Donnell also shared the same sentiment and made their voices heard.
“We all need to press and retweet @YouTube, @SusanWojcicki to stop the misinformation from spreading,” Handler wrote when quoting Cohen’s tweet.
This is not the first time that the “Chicago Trial 7” star has spoken out against the president who is stepping down. Recently, the Golden Globe winner admitted that he decided to revive Borat because of the Trump presidency.
In an interview with Variety, Cohen revealed that he saw many threats to democracy under the Trump administration and thought it was the perfect time to resurrect the character.
“I felt that democracy was in danger. I felt that people’s lives were in danger and I felt compelled to finish the film, ”said Cohen, according to Variety.
