Deadpool 3 is set to be Marvel’s first censored film.

It’s been a long time coming to Deadpool since then Disney officially acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019: The out-of-the-box unconventional superhero will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Deadpool 3. Ryan Reynolds, who wore the red and black mask in Deadpool 1 and 2 under Fox, has an ironic response to the news.

“Full disclosure: I showed them Spider-Man 1 and 2 and said it was Deadpool 1 and 2,” Reynolds tweeted, explaining how he convinced Disney to allow a minors-rated franchise to join Mouse House. Deadpool 3 is set to be the MCU’s first R-rated movie.

Reynolds’ Instagram post is even better: “First order of business: find the guy who killed Bambi’s mother.”

Deadpool 1 and 2 brought the character to his own after the first, very different portrait of Reynolds’ hero in the less-than-memorable X-Men Origins: Wolverine. When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, it became the proud new owner of the rights to Marvel’s X-Men characters. Last year, Reynolds said it was “a win for everyone involved”.

Work is underway on Deadpool 3 and Marvel boss Kevin Feige has confirmed it will be banned.

“It will be rated R and we are working on a script now, and Ryan is overseeing a script now,” Feige told Collider during the Disney Plus press for WandaVision.

But don’t expect it to end anytime soon: it looks like filming won’t start until 2022.

“It will not be filmed this year. Ryan is a very busy and very successful actor. We have a number of things that we have already announced that we now have to do, but it is exciting for this to have started. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU , and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just incredible to see him bring that character to life. “
