Ryan Hilinski of QB South Carolina enters the transfer portal

South Carolina quarterback Ryan Hilinski announced on Wednesday on Twitter that he has joined the transfer portal.

Hilinski, who is from Orange, California, played just two games this season after starting in the Gamecocks’ 11 final games as a freshman in 2019 and going through 2,357 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Collin Hill and Luke Doty combined for most quarterback spells this season in South Carolina.

Hilinski’s family created the Hilinki Hope Foundation to support mental health awareness for college athletes. Hilinski’s older brother, former Washington State defender Tyler Hilinski, died of suicide in January 2018.

In her Twitter post, Hilinski thanked the South Carolina football family, including coaches, teammates and fans, and wrote: “Thanks for giving me and my family a home when we didn’t know where it was. Williams- Brice. Thanks for the smiles, hugs, handshakes and warm greetings. I will be forever grateful for this state and the life I found after losing my brother. “
