Ryan Day in the Ohio State Football Sugar Bowl squad: “The plane is a little fuller than it was a week ago”

NEW ORLEANS – Ohio state football coach Ryan Day continues to shy away from details, but again suggested on Thursday that the Buckeyes will have more players available on Friday for the Sugar Bowl against Clemson.

Ohio State played without 24 players in the Big Ten Championship victory over Northwestern on December 18. Many of these players were eliminated due to coronavirus testing protocols, although others were left out due to injuries.

ESPN’s Maria Taylor asked Day if the Buckeyes would have the holders back for the College Football Playoff semifinal after Day left the plane in New Orleans on Thursday.

“As you know, there is a protocol to go back to,” said Day. “Many of these guys are back to protocol and have gotten stronger over the week. But you don’t just jump into the field after being out for a long period of time.

“The plane is a little more crowded than it was a week ago.”

Several OSU players are visible from the plane behind Day in the video above. The Buckeyes landed at 4:12 pm, local time, and took a bus to the Superdome for a walk.
