Russell Wilson’s trade is Bears’ top priority in resolving the quarterback’s situation: report

The Chicago Bears is making a big effort to acquire Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russel Wilson, shortly after his agent named Bears as one of the four teams he would be willing to play for, reports say.

Sources told the Chicago Tribune on Friday that the Bears “prioritized a race” in Wilson after his agent, Mark Rodgers, said earlier this week that, although he did not require an exchange, Wilson would be willing to accept an exchange with the Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints.

Rodgers’ comments were followed by an ESPN report that the Seahawks have been taking calls from interested teams and also making some calls on their own.

“It’s a real thing that Russell Wilson is not happy with,” said ESPN’s Dianna Russini. “Your agent will deny that they are demanding an exchange … (but) I know there have been calls made on both sides, going to Seattle and from Seattle to other teams.”

The Bears will have to deal seriously with their quarterback situation with Mitch Trubisky set to become a free agent later this month and a strong belief that Nick Foles is not a Chicago starter.

The competition looks good for the Bears with Cowboys likely to sign another franchise brand or a long-term deal with Dak Prescott and Raiders general manager Mike Mayock, recently supporting Derek Carr.

The only real possibility would be the Saints, with rumors still suggesting that Drew Brees played his last season.

According to the Tribune, the Bears have other options at stake, including chasing free agents like Ryan Fitzpatrick or Jameis Winston or even hiring a quarterback.
