The Seahawks are looking for an offensive coordinator after the team decided to separate from each other from Brian Schottenheimer on Tuesday.
The man known as “Schotty” spent three seasons in Seattle and the Seahawks recorded historical figures during that time.
But after a difficult playoff exit last weekend for the LA Rams, it looked like the Seahawks would have to make some technical changes.
On Monday morning, coach Pete Carroll commented on his attack saying: “We have to run the ball better, not better, we have to run more. We have to dictate what is happening to the people we are playing with, and that’s one of the ways to do that. “
He also stated that Schottenheimer would be back.
However, that was really not the case. Citing “philosophical differences”, the team decided otherwise 24 hours later.
It is not difficult to read between the lines. Seattle had a CO who preferred to pass the ball and a coach who wanted to run more. Something had to give way and Carroll had the power.
After the news was released on Tuesday, Seattle was shaken. But no one, coaches, players and fans, will be more impacted by the change than Pro-Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson.
Wilson, knowing the news, went to social media to write an open letter to his now offensive coordinator.
Thankful can be an understatement.
In the last three seasons, Schotty, Russ and the Seahawks had a 33-15 combination and had an attack that was almost unstoppable.
This season alone, Wilson went through 40 touchdowns, the record of his career, and finished just eighty yards before a new yard record with 4,212. His 384 conclusions, 558 attempts and 68.8% completion percentage were all the highlights of his career.
In the past three seasons, Wilson has totaled 11,770 yards, 106 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. Although he released his career record of 13 interceptions this season, it was certainly a by-product of his passing more than ever.
It is interesting that Seattle made that change with Carroll wanting to run more. In fact, it just doesn’t make sense. Seattle has an MVP talent as a quarterback and with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf he has the best wide receiver pair in the league. Metcalf alone is one of the league’s best recipients, drawing comparisons with Calvin Johnson.
Another season for Metcalf, Lockett and Wilson growing up under Schottenheimer would have been scary for the NFL. Instead, Carrol and company opened the search for the next player who called the team.
Wherever Schotty goes, his new city will be happy to welcome him.
As Wilson said, “It will be great.”
