Where there is smoke, there is fire, as they say about the NFL rumors. And when it comes to Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks, well, the smoke is still flowing. Weeks after CBS Sports NFL’s Jason La Canfora first indicated that teams could start trying to get Wilson out of Seattle, and days after the quarterback’s own agent identified the preferred landing sites, ESPN’s Dianna Russini reports that the Seahawks started making and receiving business calls in relation to Wilson, who remains unhappy in Seattle.

Seattle is not actively “buying” the star QB, Russini said on Thursday, “but calls made by other teams in question have been answered.” Not only that, she told the “Pat McAfee Show,” but the Seahawks made their own calls to the QB.

“It is a real thing where Russell Wilson is not happy there,” said Russini. “Your agent will deny that they are demanding an exchange … (but) I know there have been calls made on both sides, going to Seattle and from Seattle to other teams.”

This follows on from several reports of Wilson’s unrest in Seattle. The team reportedly saw an increase in inquiries from other teams after QB told several media outlets in February that it was frustrated with the club’s offensive line and wanted more voice in personal decisions. Athletic, meanwhile, reported late last month that Wilson and the Seahawks have been increasingly at odds over the past few years, with QB reportedly leaving a meeting with the team about their role and the team’s offensive strategy.

Seattle really granting Wilson’s unofficial desire for a new setting would be an unprecedented step for a perennial playoff contender with a QB franchise. But it would fit perfectly in an off-season of 2021 full of signal drama.
