With Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury now available on the Nintendo Switch, many new players are enjoying the classic Wii U for the first time. The title is known for its mix of 2D and 3D Mario platforms, catsand a list of four players made up of Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad, but it looks like things could have been quite different.
According @Nickoloxx, who claims to have “searched” the Super Mario 3D World archives, it appears that Toadette was already planned to be a playable character. Nickoloxx says: “So far I’ve found some traces of it in the player’s files. She has a voice line to select from and I also found 214 player animations.”
This voice line can be heard in the shared post below; Nickoloxx notes that while they are able to load the in-game file on the character selection screen, they cannot directly copy it.
So, has Toadette already been planned as a bonus player option? Would players have been able to choose between the two Toads, perhaps, or would it be added to Captain Toad’s levels – just like in the full Captain Toad game: Treasure Tracker?
Intriguing things.
